PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. – Avamere at Port Townsend, an independent and assisted living community, is receiving their first COVID-19 vaccinations on Friday, December 18, 2020.
Two employees are receiving the vaccine through Jefferson Healthcare, a local hospital that received enough doses for healthcare workers in Jefferson County.
“For more than 25 years, Avamere has safeguarded our deeply held commitment to deliver safe, high quality person-centered care,” stated Dr. Elizabeth Burns, Chief Medical Officer with Avamere Family of Companies. “That commitment remains today despite the unpredictable and highly contagious nature of COVID-19.”
Avamere at Port Townsend employees will have the opportunity to receive the COVID-19 vaccine throughout the week of December 21. Patients, residents, and employees within the Avamere Family of Companies will have access to the COVID-19 vaccine in the coming weeks and months.
“We appreciate the collaboration in our community with Jefferson Healthcare in defeating this pandemic,” Burns stated. “This is truly an extraordinary effort locally and globally. While our medical technologies and treatments have never been more advanced, the simple fact is the responsibility to defeat this deadly virus belongs to each of us. I highly encourage people to get informed and get the vaccine.”
Dr. Burns also plans to receive the vaccination in the weeks ahead, and she addressed common questions about the COVID-19 vaccine in an informative Q&A video series.
